One Year Wedding Planning Guide

Congrats! You’re newly engaged and looking to see what’s next on your wedding planning checklist. There’s a lot of things to do and check off before you walk down the aisle and say, “I do.” Typically, weddings takes around a year to plan. I’ve made a one year wedding planning guide to help you plan accordingly and make your life a little easier.


11 - 12 Months Out

About a year before your wedding here are the most important things you should be getting done to keep your stress level low while you plan your special day:

  • Announce your engagement to your family & friends!

  • Set a date for your wedding

  • Set a Budget

  • Research Wedding Venues

  • Think about booking a wedding planner (but not neccessary)

  • Pick a wedding theme

  • Pick your Wedding Party

  • Draft a guest list

  • Book an Officiant


9 - 10 Months Out

This time is essential for vendors! Below are some tips to keep you organized with planning vendors and planning in general!

  • Book a Photographer

  • Book a Videographer

  • Book a Wedding Planner

  • Book a Caterer

  • Book a Dessert Supplier

  • Book Rental Supplier or Event Stylist

  • Book a Florist

  • Have Engagement Photos Taken (Perfect for Save the Dates)

  • Start Wedding Dress Shopping

  • Build your Gift Registry

  • Finalize your Guest List

  • Send your Save-the-Dates


7 - 8 Months Out

  • Begin Shopping for Bridesmaids Dresses

  • Research Dessert Vendors & Do Tastings

  • Planning a Honeymoon? Do some Research!

  • Begin Creating a Song List for your Ceremony & Reception

  • Book A DJ or Reception Entertainment

  • Reserve a Hotel for Guests


5 - 6 Months Out

You’re halfway there! Woo-hoo!!

  • Groom & Groomsmen should get fitted for Suits or Tuxedos

  • Select Attire for Flower Girls or Ring Bearers

  • Shop for Wedding Rings

  • Select Transportation for Wedding Day

  • Reserve Rental Equipment

  • Book a Hair & Makeup Stylist

  • Order Wedding Invitations

  • Finalize Honeymoon Plans


3 - 4 Months Out

  • Send out Wedding Invitations

  • Meet with your Officiant

  • Attend Pre-Marital Counseling

  • Select a Wedding Cake

  • Research Rehearsal Dinner Venues

  • Schedule a Tasting with Caterer

  • Order Wedding Favors & Centerpieces

  • Order Ceremony Details and Reception Details

  • Order a Guest Book

  • Pick your dates for a Bridal Shower and Bachelorette Party


2 Months Out

  • Write your Wedding Vows

  • Obtain a Marriage License

  • Order Wedding Programs

  • Book a Rehearsal Dinner Venue

  • Schedule a Hair & Makeup Trial


1 Month Out

We’re Almost There!

  • Finalize Menu with Caterer

  • Order Alcoholic Beverages

  • Send Rehearsal Invites

  • Create a Seating Plan

  • Schedule Time off Work after your Wedding

  • Have your Final Dress Fitting

  • Confirm your Final Headcount with the Venue & Caterer

  • Send your Caterer with the Final Seating Plan

  • Review Music Selection with DJ


1 Week Out

  • Have Ceremony Rehearsal

  • Have Rehearsal Dinner

  • Send Wedding Day Timeline to Wedding Party


1 Day Out

Remember to BREATHE!!

  • Organize your Wedding Gown & Accessories

  • Get a Manicure & Pedicure with Bridesmaids

  • Pack an Emergency Kit for an mishaps throughout the day

  • Finally, Get EXCITED
